Shield Sights Red Dot Sights
British optics maker, formed in the early 1980s, that designs and manufactures its red dot sights in Crewkerne, Somerset, England. Its 2018 RMSc established the slim RMSc footprint now widely adopted for subcompact and EDC pistol optics.

Exclusions, as published
Consumable items such as batteries, wear and tear, and damage caused by misuse or improper handling. Forcing the adjustment screws past their stops damages the sight and voids the warranty. Shield reserves the right to reject claims where products have not been used as intended. Non-Shield products it sells are subject to the original manufacturer's warranty terms.
Manufacturer support
Warranty service requests are submitted through an account at shieldsights.com (Support > Warranty Service and Repair); an RMA is required before return and batteries must be removed before shipping. Repairs are handled in the UK with a stated 4-6 week end-to-end target.

Documented failure modes
- Shield Sights RMSc (Reflex Mini Sight compact): Dot shuts off under recoil, then immediately reappears . Giddings (2026), two RMSc units sent by Shield. The first stopped working after 250 rounds on a TX22 Compact; after a battery change and a move to an 856 TORO revolver it shut off under recoil after 150 rounds of .38 Special. The second, on a 327 Defender TORO, held out for about 500 rounds, then flickered off with .32 Magnum and with .32 Long; its battery had been in about 2 years, and a fresh battery did not fix it.
- Shield Sights RMSx: Dot slow to appear, then intermittently not appearing at all (electronic, not mechanical) . Hartwell (revised August 2026), one Shield-supplied unit on his carry Hellcat Pro: the dot took longer and longer to show on presentation, then on some draws never showed. Two fresh CR2032 cells, cleaned contacts and re-torqued screws did not fix it; zero stayed dead on. He calls it one unit that could be a lemon, had not yet contacted Shield, and revised his score from 9.3 to 5.2.
- Shield Sights SMSc (Shield Mini Sight Compact, 4 MOA / 8 MOA): Dot not visible in direct sunlight, visible indoors; two new batteries did not fix it . Single owner report (SW337, The Armory Life forum, June 2023), who was about to file a warranty return. No outcome is reported in the opening post.
- Shield Sights SMSc (Shield Mini Sight Compact, 4 MOA / 8 MOA): Optic loosened on the slide after the first range session . Single owner report (bllefkay, The Armory Life forum, June 2024): the SMSc "didn't want to sit flush" on his Hellcat, he hand tightened it without thread locker, and it loosened after 200 rounds; he planned to apply Loctite. Abraham (2024) also advises blue Loctite on the mounting screws.
